We made this turkey hat to help bring in Thanksgiving (and show the true “turkey” nature of Landon!). It was very easy and fairly quick to do, but Landon really loved it! He loved it so much he wanted ME to make one to wear (I passed).
Turkey Hat
1 9×11 piece of white or light tan construction paper
1 piece of brown construction paper
Construction paper of various colors (for the feathers)
Scraps of orange and red
Googly eyes
Start with cutting a 9×11 piece of white construction paper in half hot dog style. Glue the ends together to make one long strip. This will be the head band part of the turkey hat.
Then cut a “football” shape out of the various construction paper colors for the feathers. I just free hand cut them.
Then have your child cut “fringe” around the outside of each feather to make it “feathery”
Glue them on to one side of the long white strip
Cut a large brown circle, a smaller orange triangle and a red squiggly shape (that is for the wattle – did you know that the red thing that hangs under the turkey’s neck is called a wattle? I didn’t until just now. Google is my friend.)
Glue them together to make a turkey face on the other side of the headband, then add googly eyes.
Glue the headband together in a circle so it fits your child’s head (or you can staple it too…)
